What Is TestFLE?

TestFLE is a French placement and assessment platform built by Cmonprof.com. It measures a learner’s level against the CEFR, the scale defined by the Council of Europe and used internationally, from A0 (complete beginner) upwards. Schools, international schools and independent French teachers use it to place their students and follow their progress across a year. Each institution works in its own private space, in its own colours, with its own students. No data is ever shared between them.

The test on this page is made available free of charge as part of the collaboration between Cmonprof.com and TestFLE. You get the benefit of a professional assessment engine without an account, a subscription or a school behind you.

How Is TestFLE Different From This Test?

This page gives you a fixed set of 36 questions and an indicative result in about 30 minutes. It is a first picture, and a reliable one for most families.

TestFLE goes further in three ways. It is adaptive, so each question is chosen according to the answers already given, which narrows down the real level instead of sampling it. It measures six skills separately, vocabulary, grammar, conjugation, logic, reading and listening, because a child can be solid in one and fragile in another, and a teacher needs to see that difference. And it keeps a history, so a test taken in June can be read next to the one taken in October, with a written report for the family and a detailed version for the teacher.

What Does “French Level” Really Mean?
